| At
PacMin, we are committed to producing the world's finest
scale models, and the proof of our commitment is in the details.
For over 56 years we have been evolving and perfecting our production
processes, often defining the cutting edge of our industry.
The result of that commitment can be seen in the qualities of
our models: |

 |
|
The creation of a Pacific
Miniatures model begins with in-depth consultations with
the aircraft manufacturer, who provides us with blueprints
and detailed technical data. By utilizing our in-house
CAD system, we are able to design and generate custom
tooling and patterns that are exact and true. |
|
| |
 |
|
Once the pattern is approved
by the airframe company, we engineer the tooling for the
reaction injection molding process, which provides for
the optimum reproduction of each aircraft's unique designs.
The last piece we create is identical to the first, regardless
of the number manufactured. |
|
| |
 |
|
After the initial phase of reaction-injection
molding, the precision parts are removed from the mold
and undergo a series of critical inspections. We then
trim any seams, lightly sand the parts, and assemble them. |
|
| |
 |
|
The painting process begins with the
application of primer in our dust-controlled spray paint
facility, providing a smooth base coat. The parts are
then water-sanded by hand and reinspected to ensure a
blemish-free surface. |
|
| |
 |
|
From the livery blueprints,
we determine the original dimensions of all aircraft markings
and scale them to the size and shape of the model. The
airline logo, registration number if appropriate, and
all components of the paint scheme are entered into our
computer graphics system. From these elements we create
the decals. |
|
| |
 |
|
Using a color spectrophotometer, we
precisely match the colors of the paint chips provided
by the client, determine the proper formulas, and custom-mix
inks and paints. Artwork and color separations are now
produced for every color and design element. Using a precision
press, each color is silk-screened, one at a time, onto
high-quality decal paper. |
|
| |
 |
|
The decals and the model come together
in our finishing department, where artisans meticulously
apply each element to the model, which now bears several
coats of aviation-quality polyurethane paint. The models
are inspected for proper detail and receive a final coat
of clear polyurethane, which protects the finish and adds
a high-gloss sheen. |
